Pair of Milo Baughman T-Back 989 Chairs for Thayer Coggin

Available now from my private collection is a pair of T-Back 989 Chairs (also known as Floating Cube chairs) by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin. Acquired from the original owners who purchased the pair back in the 70's. Both pieces are in great vintage condition. No tears or visible stains on the upholstery. No pitting or major blemishes to the frame.

Baughman is a renowned American modern furniture designer known for his work with Drexel, Glenn of California and most notably Thayer Coggin. Some of Baughman’s most notable chair designs are the Recliner 74, Scoop Chair, the 951-103 chair and the T-Back 989 chair.

The T-Back chair is an example of his work in the later years of his career. Designed in 1968, it is quite a departure from Baughman’s earlier pieces. The thick gauged chromed steel frames became a staple in his design mannerisms from the late 60's and through the 70's. Also distinct to this era is Baughman’s usage of symmetrical or “cube” like silhouettes. Out of his catalog of chairs the T-Back Chair proves to be the most solid while providing comfort at the same time. This particular set of T-Back Chairs date back to 1975.
